Declaration taken before the Clerk of Circuit Court in St. Johns County, Florida on October 3, 1889.
William Natteel was 47 years old at the time of the declaration and a resident of St. Augustine.
He enrolled on June 13, 1863 in Company A of the 21 USCT comanded by Captain Mahlon E. Davis and was discharged at Charleston S. C. on April 25,
1866.
Personal description 5 ft 10 inches, dark complexion, black hair, and hazel eyes.
On July 12, 1865 he contracted rheumatism because of an exposure to and incident to the said service (on an island in South Carolina) while serving as
a soldier in said Company.
He was placed in the Regimental Hospital in November or December 1865.
Lived in St. Augustine since the war working as a laborer.
He was a slave when he enrolled and is now partly disabled
