Return to History of the Evangelical
Reformed and Congregational
Churches of New Orleans
Jackson Avenue Evangelical
Organized in 1846, this church was originally located at Philip and Chippewa Streets in the City of Lafayette. (The
City of Lafayette was incorporated into New Orleans as the Fourth Municipal District in 1852.) In 1876, a new
church was completed at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Chippewa Street, which still stands today. The
church is known today as the Jackson Avenue Evangelical Congregation.
