Case of Minors of William Morris, No. 171.336

On this third day of January, 1877, at
Palatka, County of Putnam State of Florida, before me, James H. Clements a Special Agent of the Pension Office, personally appeared Sarah
Morris, who, being by me duly sworn according to law, declares that her age is about 16 years, that she resides at
Palatka County of Putnam, State of Florida, and that she don't
remember her Father, her Mother's name was Minerva Bythewood, remembers living at Beaufort South Carolina, don't remember her Mother and Marriage to James Bythewood,
Affiant always heard her mother speak of her (Affiant's) Father as Sonny Morris, understood Sonny to be a Nickname, and that her Father's real name was William Morris; understood
from her Mother and everyone who knew her family that her Father William Morris died at Beaufort SC, and in the U. S. Service, does not know her Fathers Co and Regiment, Affiant
has a Brother named John Morris, Affiant has two Sisters and one Brother named Bythewood, they are her Mothers children by James Bythewood her last husband, thinks her Brother
John Morris is about nineteen years old. Affiant has never been known by any other name than sarah Morris, never heard her bro John called by any other name than John Morris,
has heard her Aunt Mary Wilson (with whom she has lived since the death of her Mother in Sept 1874) say that her Brother John was born before her Mother was Married to William
Morris, and that he was not Morris child, Affiant never heard her Mother say anything about the matter, her Mother called him John Morris, and treated both children alike. Affiant
would like to have a Guardian other than James Bythewood because she never expects to live under his charge again. Affiants Aunt has supported her since the death of her Mother.
Affiant understands the nature an Oath, but cannot write her name. Affiant heard from her Mother before her death that she had a claim against the Government on account of the
death of Affiant's Father, Wm Morris and further saith not

witness Mary ?

Sarah (her Mark) Morris

Sworn to and subscribed before me this 3 day of January 1877, and I certify that the contents were fully made known to affiant before signing.
