Case of Minors of William Morris, No. 171336

On this Thirteenth day of December, 1876, at
Jacksonville, County of Duval State of Florida, before me, James H. Clement a Special Agent of the Pension Office,
personally appeared John Morris who, being by me duly sworn according to law, declares that his age is about 19 years, that he resides at
Jacksonville County of Duval,
State of Florida, and that he can scarcely remember his Father until the death of his Mother in September 1874 he had lived with her and her husband James
Bythewood, remember coming to Florida, with James Bythewood and wife, (witness Mother) his Mother was named Minerva Affiant Mother always told him his Father's
name was Sonny Morris, other people told Affient his Father's name was William Morris, and that "Sonny" was a nickname, never questioned his Mother about his
Father, his Mother has told him that his Father was a soldier and died at Beaufort South Carolina, thinks he can dimly remember his Father in Camp, but has not any
definite recollection, Affiant has one sister who also lived with his Mother until her death, his sister's name is Sarah, she is about 16 years old, She is living with her Aunt
Mary Wilson, at Pilatka. Mary Wilson is Sister to Affiant's Father (deceased Soldier) Affiant is Satisfied with James Bythewood, as Guardian, never had a name except
John Morris, Affiant did not know that himself and Sister was entitled to a Pension, but thought his Mother had a Claim on the Govt on account of her first husband
(William Morris) Affiant's Mother was named Minerva Bythewood, she died Sept 1874., his Mother never told him his Father's name was William Morris, she always spoke
of him as "Sonny" and further saith not
