An Act to grant Pensions

This pension law statute is the beginning of the pension service disability system in the United States. With
Congressional modification it would stay in place until 1890. Note the starting date of the claims - March 4, 1861 the
inaugural date of Abraham Lincoln. (Trying to find the date of the start of the War of the Rebellion is more difficult
than finding the end date. This date is prior to the
calling up of the militia or the the proclamation closing the
Southern ports the dates used by Andrew Johnson in his proclamation ending the War.) Please see Understanding
